UK Military Sites to House Refugee Applicants in Initiative to End Hotel Usage
Several hundred individuals seeking protection might be housed in defense installations as the administration seeks to end the utilization of temporary lodging.
Negotiations are ongoing regarding the use of two facilities - a facility in Scotland and a second in the English south - for housing for nine hundred males.
The PM has directed Home Office and Defense Department authorities to expedite efforts to find appropriate military sites.
The administration has vowed to terminate the use of refugee hotels, which have required substantial taxpayer money and become a central issue for anti-migrant protests.
Proposed Defense Locations
Migrants may be accommodated in the Cameron Barracks in the Scottish city and Crowborough army training camp in East Sussex by the final days of the upcoming month.
Manufacturing locations, interim housing and otherwise disused accommodation are also being examined for possible utilization.
Government Commitments
Government sources stated that each location would comply with safety regulations.
"The government remains extremely concerned at the scale of illegal migrants and asylum hotels."
"This government will terminate each temporary accommodation facility. Efforts are well underway, with more suitable sites being identified to alleviate strain on communities and decrease migrant housing expenditures."
Current Housing Data
Approximately 32,000 refugee applicants are at this time being housed in hotel facilities, representing a decrease from a peak of over fifty-six thousand in the previous year.
A current assessment found that substantial amounts of taxpayers' money had been "misused" on migrant shelter.
Prior Defense Facility Usage
Two previous defense facilities - MDP Wethersfield in southeastern England and Napier Barracks in Kent - are currently being operated to shelter individuals seeking protection after being established under the former government.
The administration head commented on the circumstances, saying: "The government is determined to terminate every refugee hotel. Words cannot describe how troubled and alarmed the administration feels that we've been left with a challenge as big as this by the former leadership."
