One ranking policeman who jumped to the help of a colleague that got attacked by a knife attacker received the Monarch's Honor for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell fought with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a knife to the throat of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the officers and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a traffic accident in Whalley Range in July 2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.

"Policeman knifed," the officer was heard to say over his communication device.

Officer-mounted and vehicle camera video released by the police department revealed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a head covered, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a blade outstretched.

He struck the policeman who stumbled and went down to the street, after which Sgt Ansell stepped in and attempted to subdue him to the ground despite being multiple times hit with the blade.

PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a safe opportunity, ending the confrontation to an end.

Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "Please provide assistance on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the neck."

Sgt Ansell received two lacerations to his throat and further cuts to his arms and torso, whereas Sgt Foster received slash wounds.

Authorities reported Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his partner's blood loss prior to paramedics came.

This most recent honor comes subsequent to the law enforcement team won departmental Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the police federation award from the area Police Federation in early 2024.

They additionally received a Regional Courage Honor in mid-2024.

"The efforts of each policeman in the end protected themselves and meant no bystanders suffered any wounds."

Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in April 2024, per officials.
