A man, eventually detained for supposedly attacking law enforcement with a sandwich, communicates with customs and FBI agents.

A American border officer has declared in court he could detect through his ballistic vest the force of a deli item thrown at him by a Washington DC protester, who has faced court proceedings for physical attack.

Federal border agent the government official testified to the legal jury the snack "burst all over him" and he "noticed the aromatic vegetables and condiment" on his uniform.

Neither side disputes that the defendant, thirty-seven, did in fact lob vulgar language and a prepared food item at law enforcement sent by the administration to secure the nation's capital in August.

The event was filmed on camera and spread across the internet, making Mr Dunn a figure of dissent in Washington DC to the administration.

Federal attorneys originally tried to secure serious criminal counts against the accused, but a legal panel declined to prosecute him.

The former president's sending of National Guard troops to the federal district this warmer months sparked outrage from some of the local inhabitants, who viewed it as a partisan deployment of the military.

Per legal filings, Mr Dunn approached a group of officers at about 11 PM on 10 August, describing them "fascists" and shouting: "Why are you here? You are not welcome in my city!"

The trial saw a re-enactment from the agent on Tuesday as he gave evidence against Mr Dunn.

"I detected it through my ballistic vest," he testified of the food's collision, adding that an vegetable piece dangled from his official equipment and mustard marked his shirt.

Mr Dunn's legal counsel, his legal representative, stated in her opening statement that hurling the deli product was a "innocent action that did not, could not, result in harm".

But government attorney the state's representative argued the defendant must be considered responsible.

"Whatever your status, you cannot simply throwing stuff at others because you're mad," the prosecutor declared.

Following the alleged assault came to light, the accused was fired from his employment as a legal assistant in the Department of Justice.
